Hello!

I thought I'd try an answer a question I get asked a lot, "what should we do for our engagement shoot?".

I think engagement shoots are fantastic and would recommend everyone to do one.  Couples usually tell me before an engagement shoot that they hate getting their photo taken and after the shoot they will often say that it wasn't as bad as they thought!  I think the anxiety about getting your photo taken comes from not having your photo taken by a professional much in the past.  I was the same on my wedding day, but shortly into the day I realised that I had nothing to worry about and actually enjoyed the photo session.

So an engagement shoot is perfect for getting used to being in front of the lens and you'll get to learn how your photographer works and this will put your mind at ease for the big day but you also get some awesome photos out of it too so it is time to think about where you want to have your engagement shoot.

I am going to use the brilliant Martin & Ashley who had their engagement shoot yesterday as an example of picking your location.  They recently moved into their new home in Portobello so wanted photos outside their new house, of their new rescue cat Juno and on Portobello beach.  So have a think about somewhere that means somewhere to you as a couple and if it is as pretty as Portobello was yesterday then you've been very lucky...
