Best Wedding Venues in Scotland
Best Wedding Venues in Scotland
As a wedding photographer I am privileged to visit some of he best wedding venues in Scotland. I thought it would be a great idea to write about a few of them as part of my 2022 wedding photography round up. I hope my snaps and ramblings helps if you're currently in the search for your wedding venue in Scotland.
2022 was incredible and crazy in equal measures. With postponed Covid weddings and ones I had already booked in meant it was the busiest year I've ever had. Much love and thanks to all the amazing couples who had me along to snap their big day.

The moment opened the front door at Netherbyres House I knew I was in for a fabulous day as a wedding photographer. Sarah & Mike (the wonderful owners) have created an interior design masterpiece. The use of colour, light and shapes throughout is a dream. Think bold colours, quirky details and a stylish contemporary feel. Check out my Netherbyres House blog post for more.
Monachyle Mhor is a stylish boutique lochside hotel at the foot of stunning Scottish mountains. A popular venue for more intimate weddings and elopements but they also do the occasional bigger one. It's positioned right in between Loch Voil and Loch Dione so you have a choice of lochs to get married next to. On a still day the lochs reflect the surrounding mountains. Oh, and the food is incredible. Click here for an entire blog post from Monachyle Mhor.

There is also a cracking wee Air BnB near Monachyle Mhor called The Old Pink Library so I thought I'd add it in this section. You can get married on the decking in the back garden and then go exploring around the lochs for photos afterwards.
It doesn't get much more remote than a wedding at Castle Tioram. The ruined castle sits on the tidal island Eilean Tioram in Loch Moidart, Lochaber. Ideal for those wild Scottish elopements. With no indoor option it's gamble on the unpredictable West Coast of Scotland weather but the rewards are stunning.

The open brick work, gorgeous light and industrial features lends itself very well to creative wedding photography. You've also got access to some green space in the form of the Maryhill Locks which can be accessed directly from the venue. A great venue to check out especially if you're planning on having a lot of guests.

Corrour Station House
How about a wedding venue that's only accessible by train or a 20 mile walk? Corrour is the most highest and most remote train station in the UK. It was also the location of this famous scene in Trainspotting. It was makes for a very charming and cosy wee wedding venue.
I always get excited before a wedding at The Cruin. Not only for it's stunning location on the banks of Loch Lomond, it also serves up some of the wedding grub I've ever had. With both elevated and shoreside views of Ben Lomond there is no wonder why this venue is so popular.

Dalduff Farm is a rustic wedding venue is Ayrshire. They've been continually renovating the farm throughout year and this has let to so many great spaces that you can use at different parts of the wedding day. You've got the farm house to get ready in and another apartment for your partner. They've converted their big red barn into a ceremony location and the other red barn for afternoon drinks & canapés and a main building for the dinner and dancing. The food is also very locally sourced (from the farm!) and delicious.

Iconic. Dunnottar Castle is a medieval fortress sitting out in the North Sea off the East Coast of Scotland. Get married by the cliff edge with the sea and castle in the background. Afterwards go an explore the castle and take some snaps. Accessibility note, there are over 200 large concrete steps leading up to the castle so it's a bit of a hike. The cliff edge is pretty accessible (gravel path and then grass).

Canadian Rockies vibes in the highlands of Scotland? Glencoe Lochan has you covered. A wee woodland walk leads you to this spectacular loch. On a still day the loch reflects the neighbouring Pap of Glencoe mountain. The ceremony location is on the loch side path so you may have to pause your ceremony every so often to let the dog walkers by. There is also the option to get married in the woods if the weather is a bit wet. Glencoe House is situated on the grounds of the Lochan if you're looking for some luxury accommodation.

Situated down Glen Etive in Glencoe, Dalness House lies nestled between the mountains at the end of a 20 minutes drive down a single track road. It doesn't get anymore remote than that! And one for any James Bond fans out there, Dalness House bares a very striking resemblance to the CGI one that was blown up in SkyFall. The famous Aston Martin scene in SkyFall was filmed just a few minutes up the road. You can visit the full blog from this wedding here.
